Privacy policy

At valerionarcisi.me, visitor privacy is a priority. The site sets no cookies for visitors, shows no advertising and loads no third-party tracking tools. Two articles may embed external content (a YouTube video and a Relive widget), but it loads only after you click: see section 3.

1. Analytics

We use a self-hosted analytics system with no cookies and no third-party tools. We never store your IP address. It is used only in memory, together with your browser, to compute a pseudonymous identifier with a secret key that changes every day: the key is deleted after two days, and from then on it is no longer possible to trace a person or link their visits. In the meantime, the pages seen by the same visitor may be grouped into one visit (as long as they are no more than 30 minutes apart) to understand how the site is read.

We collect pages visited, referrer, device type, browser, operating system, language and country. The country comes from the approximate location provided by the hosting infrastructure or, failing that, from the browser timezone. We also measure a few actions on the pages (clicks on outbound links and downloads, article scroll depth, copying of code, claps, comments, shares) and a few page-load performance metrics (loading time, layout stability and responsiveness). Raw data is kept for 90 days; visits for 180 days; beyond that only aggregate totals remain.

The browser stores a notrack flag in localStorage only if the visitor or the site owner chooses to opt out of being counted: it is a plain flag with no identifiers and it is never sent anywhere. The other localStorage entries are only preferences (reader-mode settings, a game score) and stay on your device.

2. Data We Collect

We collect only the necessary data to provide our services: Newsletter: If you subscribe, we collect your email address to send updates. You can unsubscribe anytime. Comments: We use a self-hosted commenting system. Name and email are required to comment; your email is never displayed publicly and is only used for communications related to your comment.

Claps and likes: to prevent double votes we use an identifier derived from your IP address and browser (it is never shown and cannot be reversed into the IP). It is a pseudonymous datum kept in the database as long as the content stays online, and we process it under our legitimate interest in accurate counts.

3. Third-party Content

Some articles embed external content: a YouTube video (Google) in "Ligabue e la fine della spensieratezza" and a Relive widget in "21 giorni senza alcol". They are not loaded until you press "Load the content": until then the provider receives nothing from you. After the click the provider receives your IP address and may use cookies according to its own policy (for YouTube:policies.google.com/privacy). Every box also has a link to open the content directly on the provider's site. We do not store your choice: the next time you visit, the box is closed again.

4. Contact Form

The contact form collects your name, email, message and, if you wish, the type of request, so we can reply to you. The message is sent as an email (through the Resend service) to my address and is not stored in the site's database. To limit spam we use no CAPTCHA and no cookies: your browser solves a small calculation in the background, and for a few hours we keep a counter tied to a non-reversible fingerprint of your IP address (not the address itself) to stop repeated submissions. Legal basis: your request to be contacted and our legitimate interest in protecting the form.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to: request the deletion of your email from our newsletter; request access to, correction or deletion of your comments and the data that goes with them; object to processing based on legitimate interest. Write to us at the contact below; you may also lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).
